Dr. Ali’s Nutrient and Herbal Protocols for Preventing and Reversing Diabetes

Majid Ali, M.D.

201-996-0027

Suite 1 C, 344 Prospect Ave, Hackensack, NJ 07601

Below are the nutrient, herbal, and spice protocols  formulated by Dr. Ali and prescribed for his patients  for over 30 years. Dr. Ali for the prevention, reversal, or control of diabetes. He highly recommends that they be used under a clinician’s supervision. A special precaution suggested for the clinicians is to consider blood creatinine level of the patient as an indicator of kidney function when prescribing protocols containing potassium, although the potassium doses included are modest.

Two Most Important Questions

Is Diabetes a Sugar Problem?

The Answer: NO.

Is Diabetes An Insulin Problem?

The Answer: Yes. Yes.

Unless specified otherwise, the word at this web site is used for Type 2 diabetes.

BEWARE!

1.   If you think, diabetes is a sugar problem, tests done for blood sugar levels for screening for diabetes will be misleading most of the time.
2.   The diagnosis of diabetes will be delayed for five, ten, or more years.
3.   If you are overweight, it will be much more difficult to lose weight.
4.   Unless you are at your optimal weight, undetected insulin toxicity will injure all your body organs to varying degrees until diabetes is diagnosed and treated for years, usually five to ten or more years.

Insulin- Wise Eating

Insulin-Wise Eating

For Improving Insulin Efficiency

Insulin-Wise Eating

For Improving Insulin Efficiency

Updated Jan. 16, 2018

Majid Ali, M.D.

To reverse pre-diabetes and diabetes (completely or partially), my primary objective is to lower both blood sugar and insulin levels by making insulin work better. For individuals with pre-diabetes with insulin toxicity but without high blood sugar levels, my goal is to lower blood insulin levels by increasing insulin efficiency.

Dr. Ali’s Insulin Normalization Plan

My Insulin Reduction Protocol has three components:

  1. A plan of food choices to prevent sugar spikes that trigger insulin spikes, and
  2. A plan to do daily gentle bowel and liver detox.
  3. A Plan for Spiritual Surrender

In the Table 2 below, I present a case study to show how blood glucose and insulin levels were lowered (by increasing insulin efficiency) with the clinical application of Dr. Ali’s Insulin Reduction Protocol. I follow this with some explanatory comments. In Table 1, I present the insulin and glucose values of an individual in good metabolic health.

Table 1. Insulin-conserving Profile of a 77-Yr-Old Metabolically Fit 5′ 5″ Man Weighing 133 Lbs. He Was Seen for Allergy Treatment.

Diabetes Reversal Requires a Philosophy of Healing

Diabetes Type 2 can be reversed neither with the denial of dieting nor with euphoria of eating. Diabetes can be reversed only with a philosophy of eating and living. It requires knowing the difference between being “diabetes-literate” and “healing-literate.” Diabetes is the number one cause of blindness, neuropathy, toe and limb amputations, kidney failure leading to dialysis, and increased risk of strokes, memory loss, and heart attacks. So reversing diabetes is an act of self-compassion. If these words pull you toward making an honest attempt to lose diabetes Type 2, please consider studying “Dr. Ali’s Course on Healing” (available at www.aliacademy.com).

Five Important Facts About Insulin-Wise and Insulin-Unwise Foods

I coined the terms Insulin-Wise and Insulin-Unwise Foods to raise consciousness about the serious adverse effects of insulin spikes on all cell populations in the body.

  1. Insulin in excess (insulin toxicity) is fattening and inflaming.
  2. Healthy fats are insulin-friendly.
  3. Healthy proteins are insulin-friendly.
  4. All breads, pastas, fruits and fruit juices, and sugars are insulin-unfriendly.
  5. Vegetables are insulin-friendly.

Simply stated, Insulin-Wise foods facilitate insulin signals and other functions, while Insulin-Unwise foods impede or block insulin signals and other functions. I present this subject at length in my book entitled “Dr. Ali’s Plan for Reversing Diabetes” and in a 40-minute video seminar that can be downloaded from www.aliacademy.org or by calling 1-800-633-6226.

Below are guidelines for Dr. Ali’s Insulin Diet. If initially this diet plan is found to be too hard and restrictive, one or two days a week may be taken as free days. Of course, some insulin benefits will be lost on such days.

Insulin-Friendly Breakfast for Saving Insulin and Preventing Diabetes

  1. Please consider “Dr. Ali’s Breakfast” (protein shake described below) four or five days a week.

2.` Take eggs and vegetables for breakfast the remaining two days.

  1. No fruit juices, breads, or toast.

Insulin-Friendly Lunch for Saving Insulin and Preventing Diabetes

  1. Large salad with goat cheese, chicken, or fish. All the olive or sesame oil you wish.
  2. Uncooked, steamed, or lightly stir-fried vegetables. All the olive or sesame oil you wish.

Mid-Afternoon Snack

Use four to six ounces of the Dr. Ali’s Breakfast shake (prepared in the morning and carried to work).

Insulin-Friendly Dinner for Saving Insulin and Preventing Diabetes

  1. All healthy fats and oils
  2. All healthy proteins
  3. Uncooked, steamed, or lightly stir-fried vegetables with melted butter or olive oil (to your heart’s content).

Optimal Breakfast Choices for Diabetes

Dr. Ali’s Breakfast on five to six days per week comprising: (1) two tablespoons of a protein powder containing 85 to 90 percent calories in proteins and peptides; (2) two tablespoons of a granular lecithin; (3) two tablespoons of freshly ground flaxseed (the use of a coffee grinder is recommended); (4) 12 to 16 ounces of organic vegetable juice (avoiding or minimizing the use of carrots and red beets); and (5) 12 to 16 ounces of water. A few ounces of seltzer water or a few drops of lemon juice may be added to suit personal taste. I personally consume this mixture in portions of six to eight ounces with my morning nutrient and herbal protocols during the period of my morning exercise, meditation, and preparation for work. I have not yet encountered any negative impact of the protein content in this breakfast on renal function. Still, individuals with serum creatinine levels above the normal range need to be monitored for renal function.

Insulin – the Minister of Energy and Metabolism

I designate insulin to be the Minister of Energy and Metabolism to the Oxygen king of the human body. By its signals, it regulates the energy of all cells in the body. Of necessity, this means that insulin has a role to play in the health preservation of all such cells.

Insulin is a hormone produced in specialized cells of the pancreas gland called beta cells. It is a string made up of 51 amino acid molecules and has a molecular weight of 5808 Daltons. Insulin performs diverse metabolic and non-metabolic functions in the body. As for metabolism, its major functions include the transfer of glucose from the blood into the liver and muscle cells for storage and into the fatty tissues to stop the use of fat as fuel. Among the major non-metabolic functions are its roles in cellular development, differentiation, and death.

Insulin is the master energy hormone for preventing and reversing diabetes.

The Path

The Path to Healing Is the Path to Peace.

The Path to Peace Is the Path to the Spiritual.

The Path to the Spiritual Is the Path Away From the Self.

The Path Away from the Self Is the Path to One’s Own Divinity, to Oneness With Divinity.

The Path to That Oneness Is the Path to Insulin Solutions, and Freedom from Diabetes and Its Suffering.

Four Steps for the Physician

My top four goals for reversing diabetes and clearing insulin toxicity (hyperinsulinism) are the same as they for all other chronic diseases. Specifically, they are:

                                      1. Oxygen signaling

                                 2. Gut ecology

                        3. Insulin signaling

 4. Truth and best effort

For my patients on the Path Away From Diabetes, I

  • Promise no results,
  • Promise total honesty, and
  • Promise best effort.

Vitamin B6 for Preventing and Reversing Gestational Diabetes

Vitamin B 6 in its Pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P5P) form can be rightfully considered a nutrient of choice for preventing and reversing gestational diabetes. Simply stated, this is how it works:

  1. Xanthourenic acid (XA) is a metabolite of tryptophan(which is used to produced melatonin and serotonin)
  2. Women who are more vulnerable to gestational diabetes seem to have altered enzymatic function so tryptophan is readily turned into xanthourenic but not so readily into melatonin and serotonin.
  3. Excess xanthourenic acid binds with insulin and blocks metabolic functions of insulin in lowering blood glucose level setting the stage for gestational diabetes..
  4. Women who are more vulnerable to gestational diabetes seem to have altered enzymatic function so tryptophan is readily turned into xanthourenic but not so readily into melatonin and serotonin.
  5. Very high estrogen levels during pregnancy also seem to play a role.

Who Is Fanning the Fires of Obesity and Diabetes?

Majid Ali, M.D.

Who can be held responsible for fanning the fires of obesity and diabetes in the United States? Those who produce fattening and diabetizing foods, as well as those who keep Americans ignorant about the real scientific issues.

Insulin Toxicity Fans the Fires of Obesity and Diabetes?

Insulin is the fattening hormone. Insulin toxicity is the primary cause of diabetes except in rare cases of developmental disorders. The validity of this statement can be tested by simple blood insulin tests. My free Courses on Insulin Toxicity and Diabetes Reversal are presented at www.AliDiabetes.org.

The U.S. topped the list of countries with high incidence of diabetes until September 3013 when China toppled the country from that distinction.

The New York Times does not recognize the epidemic spread of insulin toxicity in the United States. It continues to skirt te real scientific issues and publish superficial, often meaningless, materials. Consider the following three letters to editors published on April 3, 2015 and see whether the Times is serving or disserving its readers:

Letter One

In “See No Junk Food, Buy No Junk Food” (Op-Ed, March 21), Thomas A. Farley and Russell Sykes raise an important question — how can we ensure that every American has access to healthy food? — but don’t mention the Agriculture Department’s contributions to this challenge.

In the last six years alone, the Agriculture Department has invested billions to expand access to healthy food, including building new grocery stores in underserved areas, increasing access for food stamp users at farmers’ markets, pushing for improvements to school meals, and testing innovative strategies to eliminate hunger, particularly among children.

Soon, we will invest another $31.5 million to build on our work to test strategies that encourage food stamp recipients to buy healthier foods. We’ve also started the work of strengthening healthy food stocking requirements for convenience stores that accept food stamps, where just 4 percent of all benefits are redeemed. Collectively, these efforts work to empower Americans to eat healthier, reduce the nation’s health care costs and strengthen rural economies.

Kevin Concannon

Under Secretary of Agriculture for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services

Washington

Letter Two

The suggestion to mandate a minimum amount of shelf space for healthy foods like fresh fruits and vegetables in urban neighborhood stores is laudable, but in the long run reinforces a misconception that only fresh fruits and vegetables count, whereas frozen don’t.

Increasing fruit and vegetable intake is an important step toward improving diet quality, both in terms of the nutrients they provide and the less nutritious and calorie-dense foods they replace. However, fresh fruits and vegetables are expensive, highly perishable and particularly for vegetables can be labor-intensive to prepare.

Frozen fruits and vegetables are more affordable, as nutritious, less perishable and quicker to use during food preparation than their fresh counterparts. Instead of focusing on “fresh” fruits and vegetables, mandating a minimum amount of shelf space for frozen options would serve the same purpose. Given the availability of freezer space for frozen desserts, this would be an easy change.

Alice H. Lichtenstein

Boston

The writer is a professor of nutrition science and policy at Tufts University and the director of its Cardiovascular Nutrition Laboratory.

Letter Three

A primary justification behind a ban on using federal food stamps for junk food is that it is against the public interest for tax dollars to add fuel to a health crisis caused by poor diets. That logic dictates that we make such a policy more universal and not confined only to low-income people.

Every year, public dollars are used when federal employees buy junk food while on official travel and, presumably, when federal agencies host conferences and other events.

Extending a junk-food ban more broadly to federal employees might be difficult to enforce, but it would send an important message that if the federal government is going to ban using public funds for junk food, then it will be blind to income and employment status. Even partial compliance would be a step in the right direction.

Reversing Diabetes – the Past for Knowing, the Present for Doing

Diabetes Type 2, the type that accounts for over 95% of cases, takes five, ten or more years to develop. During these years, the real problem is insulin toxicity which can be detected reliably only with a blood insulin test. Regrettably, this is not done by doctors. I discuss this crucial issue in the following two FREE courses:

1. Dr. Ali’s Insulin Course

2. Dr. Ali’s Diabetes Course

True Cost of Shopping for Diagnosis

How much of our resources do we Americans devote to thinking about health issues —shopping around for diagnosis, so to speak—and how much to solving the health problem (s)? I often pose this question to my patients. Most of them think for a while and then put the number for thinking about the problem between 70% to 80% . Some of them then ask for my answer, which is: clearly more than 90%, possibly more than 95%. This brings me to my choice of words in the title of this article: Reversing Diabetes – Past for Knowing, Future for Doing. What if we could clearly understand the cause of diabetes once and for all and then devote all our resources to reversing the disease?

Insulin Literacy

Diabetes is an insulin problem long before it becomes a sugar problem. It can be neither prevented nor reversed without insulin literacy. So, please consider Dr. Ali’s Insulin Course on this site and stop wasting your resources on looking for the source of the problem. You will then be free to commit all your resources to controlling the problem—reversing diabetes, completely or partially—until such time that what you need to do for your health is what you want to do for the love and passion of it.

So, it is simple. Learn about the past once and spend the present and the future for doing.

Reversing Diabetes by Restoring Bowel Health

Restoring bowel ecology is one of my top priorities for reversing diabetes. Why is it so? My simple answer: Because I cannot help my patients reverse diabetes without it. I take time to explain to them how insults to gut ecology set the stage for insulin receptor dysfunction, insulin resistance, and ultimately diabetes. In a companion article entitled “Seed, Feed, and Weed Approach to Bowel Health,” I offer my guuidelines for restoring bowel ecology.

How Did I get So Preoccupied With Gut Ecology?

In the 1970s, based on a study of more than 4,500 colon and 1,100 stomach biopsies, I introduced the term “bowel ecology” and published several papers to describe how disruptions of this ecosystem set the stage for the development of chronic diseases. The immune system, in this view, is rooted in the soil of the bowel contents. This was one of the seven insights my microscopes and patients provided. It would take me over two decades to recognize that the bowel ecosystem, more than other ecosystem in the human body, serves well the Oxygen King of human biology to prevent disease and prolong life, or mis-serves it to cause chronic diseases and premature aging. This was another of my seven insights. I devoted my book Oxygen and Aging (2000) to this core notion.

The Oxygen Model of Diabetes

It was my early work in the 1970s that eventually led to propose the Oxygen Model of Insulin Toxicity and the Oxygen Model of Diabetes. I devote separate articles, video seminars, and short videos to these subjects at this website. The flora of various compartments of the gut flora (colon flora, small intestine flora, stomach flora, and oral flora) constitute an enormous ever-changing microbial kaleidoscope which preserves health. At one level, the human body can be seen as a wide range of microbial habitats.

When disrupted, changes in such microbial communities play pivotal roles in the development of all chronic disease, increasing diabetes, both of type and type 2 variants.
